While I understand the requirements surrounding individual oxy and acteylene cylinders and the requirement to store seperately 3 meters secured cages etc , outside the building . What about when the oxy - acetylene rig is set up i.e flash backs in place hoses etc etc ?We store them upright on trolleys and chained each night outside the building but the cylinders are still together . It is not practical to dismantle the sets every day to store the cylinders seperately at that stage and set it all up again before each use . My question is really behind our reasoning for storing seperately initially but not when its a working rig ? What are your views and does anyone have any practical ideas or comments on this ? P.s this has come from a client audit surrounding the storage of set up welding rigs ?

HSG139 is the relevant guide, though I'm sure you've accessed this. Refer to para 63 onwards, relating to "cylinders in use". The guide states that you can store cylinders that are connected for use in a workroom plus 1 spare gas and oxygen cylinder, obviously subject to a FRA. The guide even shows a wheeled trolley set up as you describe, and as we have in maintenance areas. Presumably due to it not being reasonably practicable in many situations to disconnect cylinders in use and take back to the storage area after every use, and the risk (manual handling, cylinder damage etc.) associated with this.
