It's been a long week and no matter how long I work for my employer there always seems to be something that chatches me by surprise, despite doing inspections, audits etc etc. Anyway, I have discovered that we own a sizeable structure (machine/plant shed) built entirely out of tube and fitting scaffold components, erected originally by a ticketed scaffold outfit, - roof and all! (It is robust and has been very well constructed). I would love to be able to say that this needs formal weekly inspections (as per access scaffolds) but am hesitant to do so without any documentary or other justification. Are such (long term) structures acceptable, (planning permission??), and what inspection intervals would be deemed reasonable? In many respects I would prefer to see the structure removed altogether but that may be difficult to achieve without good justification. Any opinions?

If it is a structure and somebody does not use it as a place of work at height nor use it to access a place of work at height can we still call it a scaffold in the common meaning of the word?
I would keep away from planning as you just do not need it as its quite another area and I would get somebody in to check the structure if you are not sure and go from there noting that such such structures are not uncommon and just because we use scaffold and it has not been checked for some time does not mean that it is unsafe

Problems will come to a head when you need to conduct maintenance on the structure. There should be a design for it somewhere!
