Can someone please give me the above, my dilemma is this last week I had a job interview and was informed that I am over qualified for the position, this week I have had another interview and I was informed that I did not have enough experience. I hold Nebosh general and fire certs with credit, advanced hygiene level4 with Merit and I am about to complete the NTU pro dip shem, what do I need to do to gain employment? All responses treated with the greatest respect. Thank you

You were over qualified because your Qs were better than those of your potential line manager. Maybe you lacked "relevant" experience Someone else was in the right place at the right time - it happens!
..........or they were both being polite and you have lousy dress sense & rampant BO !! ;-)

You were good enough to get an interview. - top 5 out of 100? someone has got to be dissapointed - one of 4 ?
Learn from it best you can & move on. eventually you will succeed
Keep smiling!

Experienced or under experience for a particular job is a relative thing and a matter of opinion of the interviewer(s)
Experience relative to whoever else was interviewed for the job.
Subjective opinion of the interviewer to the answers you gave to questions.
Apply for the next job, their loss

I have had the same issues of over /under experience and after 2 years now of looking I have become slightly disillusioned with the world of Health and Safety. I have started to look at other career avenues, but not given up entirely with H&S, and I’m not suggesting you should either. The best advice I have seen on these forums is to keep plugging away, and hope your turn to be successful comes along soon. On the bright side, you have got through to 2 interviews, so your experience can’t be that far away from what they were looking for. If you know you are applying for a job, where you feel that you may have more experience than they require, give a good reason for wanting to take a backwards step. Ie you have always wanted to work in whatever industry sector it is and are willing to take a step back to do so. You find what this company does fascinating etc etc. Caution though, only do this if this if they make some sort of comment. The last thing an employer want is to employ someone who will disappear the moment they get a better offer, leaving them to go through the whole process again (time, trouble and money), so give them a good reason to not think that is what you will do.
If you think you have not enough experience, plan as best you can for this, read the advert very, very carefully (think NEBOSH exam, especially the Diploma) where you can’t afford to ignore a single word. Pull together anything from your experiences which may demonstrate every one of these words / phrases.
Essentially try and second guess what they may have issues with and prepare for them. You are probably trying to do all the above and more already. This post may even be an excuse for you to communicate your availability (I’m sure the cynic in me is how I ended up in H&S).
Lastly - Pray to whatever god you think may listen, it can’t hurt.
Feel free to ignore any or all the above.
P.S I’m in a odd mood as I have just come from the job centre (well that’s what they call themselves), and I’m always a bundle of laughs after a visit to them.

SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES AND THEN COME UP FIGHTING!!
