Hi All

Can you please assist

I was lead to belive that BS 7121 section 3 was the guidance on crane manbasket use, and that the maximum wind speed was 15MPH and also BS 7121 been superseded with an European standard is that correct?

The reason for these questions is that I have been told the maximum wind speed of 15mph can be ignored as BS 7121 is a guidance document only is this correct

Any help much appreciated

Regards Elliot

Hi Elliot, this is the extract from BS7121, this is the standard that cranes work to. You can ignore all the guidance if you wish but should anything happen and you have authorised it you will be responsible. Any competent crane operator will give you good advice.

Carriers should not be used in the following conditions:
1) winds exceeding 7 m/s (25 km/h). Windspeed measurements
should be taken using a calibrated handheld anemometer at a
similar level to that to which the carrier will be lifted;

Elliot the reason you are not getting many replies is because Johnmc has sewn it up.

Do not ignore BS7121 it is the bible ignoring best practice would go against you.
