I’m reviewing the training of our Fire Wardens on site which currently requires them in the event of a fire alarm to identify the location of actuation, attend the location, confirm status (either fire or false alarm) and action as appropriate. Does anyone have a robust process, procedure, safe system of work for a Fire Warden that I could review?

Hi Sweeney, I don't have a specific process for you, as I primarily deliver Fire Warden training amongst other safety related training. From the questions I ask as part of my initial assessment, and the policies and procedures I have read relating to Fire Wardens, it is shocking to find that many procedures do not make reference to Fire Wardens checking the visual panels of doors or feeling for heat prior to entering a room. As a former a Firefighter, I focus on Fire behaviour, development and spread, rather than legislation, and when I started this, I was surprised that there is so little knowledge, even from experienced Fire Wardens. Therefore, its probably worth considering as part of your review. I do not know your background and experience, so I apologise in advance for teaching you suck eggs. If I can be of further assistance, I have recently delivered training to DEFRA nationally and more recently the DECC, Whitehall, London. mike@petersensafety.co.uk
