With regards yesterdays £1m fine of Network Rail after they admitted health and safety breaches over the deaths of two girls at an Essex level crossing. I wonder if the Chancellor/Government will be returning this money back to Network Rail given their stated intention of destroying the health and safety monster or is income derived from this monster acceptable.

I suspect that what will happen is that the appropriate Government department will pocket the money (Thank you very much!). The Government will then review the National Rail budget and make an 'adjustment' to make up for the shortfall that the fine has caused. Whichever way you look at it, those paying tax pay in the end! Wherelse can the money come from? The CEO's bonus???

How about sacking those responsible and banning them from holding executive positions for the rest of their lives.

A million quid to a large organisation like Network Rail is a mere drop in the ocean.
