Warehouse lighting causing vehicle accidents

We operate a vehicle depot and there have been a number of accidents involving vehicles reversing into floor to ceiling posts. The problem seems to stem from the fact that vehicles drive from bright sunlight into the hangar which is lit by strip lighting at ceiling height and our drivers are not able to adjust to the different levels of lighting quickly enough. As a quick fix we tried painting the bottom half of the posts with bright yellow paint but we still had accidents.
It is not possible to remove these posts and we are unable to increase to size of the entrance to the depot to allow for graduated lighting (similar to entering/exiting a road tunnel).
Has anyone had experience of something similar and can you help me find a solution?

I've just been reading lots about this! Try HSG136 and INDG199. Both freely available on HSE website.

Bit confused.
You say driving in which means to me forwards, then state reversing into the posts? Any clarification on that (our site does both and lighting in some of our units can cause similar problems)?
First and foremost if they can't see where they are going you need to stop them driving in quickly (sounds like they are continuing driving when they haven't adjusted) so maybe tell them (not ask) to stop as they go in, wait 30 seconds to adjust then continue safely.
Or am i being as dim as the lighting?

Sorry - should have been clearer in my original post!
Vehicles go in forwards then reverse into a space within the hangar.
I do think drivers may take their vehicles in too quickly as they feel pressure from the drivers in the vehicles behind them at peak times of the day.
I'm thinking the solution may be a banksman at busy times and an instruction to wait 30 seconds after entering the hangar before reversing.
I appreciate your response

No problems, we use hangers on our main site so fully aware that the FLT drivers can feel under pressure but for the sake of 30 seconds max, better than £x per accident etc...

Can you illuminate the posts in anyway if there are not hundreds of them? - something like LED lights - similar on buoys found at sea?

Is there anyway to reorganise the task so that they don't need to reverse (drive in-drive out)?
If there is an issue with feeling under pressure due to drivers behind etc. then maybe a form of manned gate may work so the pressure is off the driver, as the driver behind cannot move into the area until the gate is lifted. This would also allow the operator of the gate to ensure drivers have enough time to adjust to the lighting levels.
If it's the pause between outside and inside you want, just providing the instruction may not be enough as drivers will want to get on with it as quick as possible and may ignore the instruction.

I suggest you dob't go with the banksman thought, lest they reverse into him as well! Speed seems to be the critical issue here and perhaps a lack of other visual alignment cues for the drivers.
Something as simple as painted lines on walls etc, or even suspended tennis balls can all help keep your drivers on course.
