With poor take up (1%) & the deadline of 2014 looming, have you begun this training?
Do you think the deadline will be extended or even as some rumours have it, abandoned?
Regards Paul.

I too have heard the rumours that it may be scrapped - I can't imagine it would be as there has been too much invested in it. I would like to think it would become much more workable. I had asked if prior learning (or other approved learning could contribute, eg do those with an HSE approved first aid certificate really need to attend a first aid session the answer was yes they do. Aside from the refresher element being good practice, it was feasible that you could complete a 3 day first aid course this week and then attend a CPC first aid the next week. That can apply to other subject areas too. So I hope if it is retained that it will become less rigid in approach. I think the principal is pretty good (disappointing that many companies don't already have a robust ongoing training programme - perhaps a debate for another day)
That said, the company that I drive for seem to have taken their "foot off the pedal" - we were doing a module per year, but nothing took place for year 3 and still waiting to see what is being programmed for this year (year 4 for me). Don't forget PCV drivers have until September 2013, it is LGV drivers that have 2014.
I would of course highlight that the regulations make it the drivers responsibility to get the training not the employers to provide. That means that in many circumstances it will be drivers that are holding back not the employer. And there will be a mad rush in 2013 for PCV drivers, and a similar in 2014 for LGV. That of course means providers will be charging a premium!! (Or am I just being cynical?)
I would be surprised if the UK was to extend the deadline - I imagine it would be a European decision/proposal.
Anyway you have stirred me into action - I will need to get a year 3 module under my belt -perhaps the health and safety one - it should be fun!!

Although lorry wagons have to carry the companies logo and colours the drivers cab can be modified and customised.
The deadline of CPC is the time allowed until this personalisation of orry cab is removed from drivers and Custom Powder Coatings will no longer be allowed.
Or see Motorheads post above ;-)

Just read your link and have found it applies to all my drivers. Over to my Transport manager with me monitoring the outcome.
Oops just heard an almighty crash with expletives exploding into the ether.
Bang goes the Transport budget
Have a great weekend all driving managers

i may have this wrong but i looked into the driver cpc when i passed my hgv in october 2008 and again last year when i was out of work, the company that i took my test with said that aslong as you attend 5 times and do the course then you pass, you can do the same lesson each time, each time you go they input on a website that you have attended , as far as im concerned that makes a joke of the whole training program.

pete This is technically true, and I'm sure that there are unscrupulous folks out there who will do this/allow this. But, as very few if any of the CPC training sessions are assessed with a pass or fail outcome, why wouldn't you sit different sessions? As for the OP, I don't think that it will be scrapped, to many of the big employers have invested in the training already and also it's an EU directive if I'm not mistaken. However IMO if drivers don't wake up and take notice shortly, the police/VOSA will be having a field day come September 1st 2013 (or 2014 if your a trucker)
