Hi People I am looking at a job role for a company and it is detailed as Health and Safety Building compliance auditor. The description oulines the role as "ensuring all buildings in use or not in use but owned by company remians within Health and Safety legislative requirements" I have been trying to pre-empt any questioning during the interview process by studying before the interview. Although I have worked in buildings maintenence as an Engineer and as a Safety Advisor, it is always good to be hundred percent up to speed in interviews with technical info and new guidance etc. My question is: What legislation would you be looking at? I am compiling a list currently to then source all guidance documents later, and then study all information. I would just be interested in others take on what constitutes building compliance. Many thanks

The following come to mind: Asbestos Regs, Workplace (H,S & W) regs, any fire regs, buildings regs, occupiers liability act, etc... Then if you are talking about places with magnetic fields, nuclear research, biological agents research, etc then you are looking at COSHH, DSEAR, etc... Just a quick & not exhaustive list. I am sure somebody else will come up with more.

Bern mentions Asbestos, you can talk about the new 2012 regs (see another thread). Shows you keep up with new legislation.

Hmmm........what 'health and safety' legislative context can be applied to an unoccupied building? None? Occupier Liability issues could certainly arise where the building is not secure, presents an attractive nuisance, or is allowed to fall into such a state of disrepair as to present a danger to the general public. In a H&S context, there's also legionella (COSHH L8) fixed plant and equipment (electrical safety, gas safety, lifting equipment, pressure vessels......etc.
