Hi ,I have not put this in the study support forum because I am hoping for advice from people who already hold the Diploma and probably rarely visit that forum. I hold the NGC and the RoSPA train the Trainer Manual Handling and Risk Assessor Cert . I am awaiting my results from the Nebosh Fire Certificate course and will be attending the Nebosh Environmental course (now paid for by my employer)at Harrogate College starting at he end of the month. Due to my redundancy pay off from my previous position I am in a position to self finance the Diploma and would like to know how much of a head start I will have if any by my previous attendance on the Certificate courses. The reason I ask is that a fellow delegate on the fire course who is a Diploma holder said the course covered Fire in far more depth than the Diploma did. I will be studying along side of carrying out my role(H/S Adviser) so I want to give myself every advantage to gain the Diploma because it is rather expensive. Any advice or opinions would be very welcome

I did the diploma in 2006 which was 4 years after I completed the certificate. I don't really think that having the general and fire certificates gives you any great advantage. It may be true that the fire certificate goes into greater depth on fire issues that the diploma but that is only one area. The diploma covers a much greater area and in much greater depth that the general certificate. However that should not put you off. The key to the diploma is pacing yourself. I completed it in just under a year which in retrospect I feel was too quick. I would probably have got a much better grade if I had completed it one module at a time. You will need to set aside plenty of time for private study. Try to practice answering exam questions and if you can't find any then use the learning requirements as set out in the blue book that you will receive when you start the course.
Good luck

Obviously it will give you a little head start as you know what its all about.
I did the NEBOSH Diploma about 4 years after the IOSH Managing Safely - bit of a shock to the system!!! -but I passed. Couple of people who had the NGC failed so I think it's down to the individual. (I am not that academic either I just enjoyed the content which made studying easier)
Good luck

If you are after a head start I would have posted this in the other forum to see what others did or feel they should have done to get the edge.
I would advise the following:
Go to the NEBOSH web site and get all the past papers you can. Read, read and read them. Practise writing the answers. Oh, and practise writing the answers. The more you do this the better you will be able to get in the mind set on the day of the exam to answer the question in the correct manor. Study your HASWA. Read it and the key parts and know them inside out. Likewise the MHSAW Regs. Look at COSHH, PUWER, Noise, Vibration, OL to name but a few. Read them in the bath, at night, any time you have a spare minute. Read, read and read them. Know your case law. Know and fully understand about SSOW, DoC, The Neighbour principle, Vicarious liability, Wilson and Clyde Coal again to name but a few...
This will give you a insight/start/heads up...GL!

Thank you for the replies pl53 I actually posted I have the Manual Handling Train the trainer Cert from RoSPA and will be attending the Nebosh Environmental Cert course as well as holding The Fire Cert and NGC so I will be have gone into more detail in 3 separate areas. I wanted to know if attending 3 courses besides the NGC would be much of an advantage which would influence the time scale I will go for completion I have seen many posts on here over the years about how studying for the Diploma takes over your life and wanted to know just how much more study the Diploma involves on the certificates besides the NGC I hold or hope to hold or will the knowledge I have gained be enough in these areas.
