Would be very grateful for a steer on where to access guidance on frequency and the standards to be met for air conditioning systems. We are in a reasonably large approx 40 year old premises with basement car park, ground and first floor where the ventilation is entirely provided by the air conditioning system. There are some issues with the employees that may be linked to the building and I am keen to increase my understanding of air conditioning as part of this.

This is probably something where the professional input of an occupational hygienist would be helpful. Try phoning the British Occupational Hygiene Society (01332 298 099) and they will probably be able to give you some contacts in your area. Chris

A peek at the F-Gas Regualtions might also help. Off the top of my head, leakage checks should be carried out at least annually if system has over 3kg charge (6 kg if hermetically sealed); or 6 monthly if over 30kg. 5 year inspection program by a certified inspector (not necessarily an air conditioning engineer). Detailed records to be maintained.
