Monitoring outstanding noncompliances raised by audits etc.

Folks
We operate on a number of sites throughout the UK. In each of our depots we have trained auditors
who complete quality, environmental and safety audits and report these back to head office. I am looking to design a system that I can regularly monitor the issues raised from a central location and ensure that they have been actioned so I can report them back to management at the monthly meeting.
I am aware that they are software packages available on the market however I dont want to invest a considerable amount of money until I see what other people use and think. I have an idea what It should look like but was hoping for a few suggestions or if possible for someone to share their method so I can modify to suit me.
I want to be fit to record basically non compliances from near misses, accidents, audits and basically everything.
Can I have some advice please?
Ed

My company uses Synergi which would perfectly fulfil all of your requirements (other databases are available and I'm sure are just as good.)
You could probably set something up yourself using access or excel, but personnaly, if I had the budget, I'd go for a bespoke package like Synergi. Maybe they will do a trial or something?

I've used this package and it is very good, but you have to put the right information in at the design stage and then ensure everyone is entering within the same parameters, age old adage "rubbish in, rubbish out". The system has a few layers, so its critical that its designed right. It is a good system though.

The first part of your question would be answered by (e.g.) Microsoft Project.
The second part of your question describes an 'accident database' and there are a fair few of them out there!

Thanks for all who replied. I probably go down the route of designing my own. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ed

Eddy - As with all auditing of an audit process, it tends to be time consuming, the key is in who's time it consumes.
In a previous employment (construction industry), we had trained auditors on each site who had to submit audit reports weekly to the HSQE administrator.
Non conformance's were highlighted in red, close out of the previous weeks NCR's were the first item on the weekly report, and these were reported to the HSQE Manager (myself), generally for information purposes only.
However, anything outstanding by more than a week was investigated by myself and kept 'live' till I closed it out.
I also did the periodic audit checks on site visits to ensure compliance to audit procedures.
As I said, it was a time consuming process, I reckon I spent 20% of my time on auditing, the admin girl at least twice that, and the actual auditor on site about the same.
All in all, the system worked, NCR's were identified, closed out, and improvements made where neccesary, and not once in the 6 years I worked there did we fail any surveillance visits from the certification body.
