CDM Coordinator Competency - Rep of Ireland H&S Professional

Hi All
I've had a proposal from my current employer to contract me out as a CDM Coordinator to some contacts he's generated in the UK. We operate in a very niche area of construction and I'd be working in this area using experience I've gathered over here in Ireland. We have done some work in the UK recently and as a result I've some limited UK construction safety experience in this niche area.
I've expressed some concerns regarding my competency. While I'm very experienced in the work environment I'm being suggested for, I have very limited knowledge of CDM and UK workplace safety legislation.
I'd like to get peoples opinions on my suitability. I would assume anyone performing the role of CDM Coordinator should be professionally qualified by degree or academic qualification. While I have a Grad IOSH qualification I've no technical qualification in construction. When advising on design safety issues surely that would be a pre-requisite? That's where my concerns are, apart from the elephant in the room - not having substantial experience of the UK environment.
Thanks in advance!!!!

Hi, the UK regulations also almost a mirror image of the Republic of Ireland's "Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2006. The UK's CDMC role is almost identical to the PSDP. There is no UK equivalent of the PSCS - the Principal Contractor takes full resopnsibility. In my opinion, if you were competent to undertake the PSDP role, you could quite easily undertake the CDMC role, (with just a couple of hours updating yourself on the slightdifferences in legislation). The link below might be of some use. It has useful guidance in plain english http://www.cskills.org/s...regs/guidance/index.aspxAdditionally if you go to the HSE website http://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/index.htmyou can download a free copy of the CDM Approved Code of Practice (a loads of other stuff) from this site. Good luck with the new job!

Hi there
Thanks for the reply.
I'll be straight to the point. I've only ever worked in the PSCS role.
In your opinion what is required to bridge that qualification/knowledge/experience gap? Is it feasible?
Thanks.
