The company that I work for has been ask to carry out an experiment involving crude oil. I have heard that you need a licence to handle crude oil and I've looked on the internet to confirm this but so far all I've found is that you need a licence for haulage, refining, drilling etc but nothing for handling. Does anyone know if you need a licence for this. Thanks Darth

Darth, I think you may find it will be to do with how much you are handling or more importantly storing. The regs are aimed at reducing risk of pollution e.g. over 200Ltrs I think, although crude oil is susceptible to a low flash point and of course skin contact will have to play a part in any risk assessment, even in low quantities?

Just had a chat with the people carrying out the experiment, they have told me they will only be handling / storing two litres of oil.
