Hi All
Looking for an alternate to Barbour Index for obtaining information on health and safety. Has anyone experienced another type of system and would recommend it. Barbour getting expensive.
Regards

Hi Robert,
my organisation uses IHS / Technical indexes. It is very good, (especially the Occupational Health and Safety Information Service module), although I have no idea how much it costs.

I use Croner supplied by Walters Kluwer. I have also used Barbour in the past. I think Croner is easier to navigate but may have less informaton. I think the last invoice was for about 2k.

Robert.
We use IHS OHSIS.
Unless Barbour's search facility has improved dramatically since my last demo, then it's not nearly as flexible as OHSIS.

Rob,
I have also used IHS (old TI) for many years & found them to be very good.
Depending on the size of your organisation, don't be afraid to haggle, it's always worked for me, & also decide if you want to include British Standards as the cost goes up if you do!
If you need to occasionally access BS's then your local public library can help!

An update on local libraries which were great
Many local libraries have not bought into BS for this financial year and of those that have there appears to be no way now of allowing either internal transfer of data e.g. to staff inside the council nor full print out facilities for members of the public

We do (as IOSH members) get access to quarterly resource packs from Barbour, this is not however open access to other information on the Barbour site, but only to the complimentary resource pack.
If you are not getting the quarterly resource packs and would like them then you can email barbour-iosh@ubm.com to arrange for this to happen.
