Hello to you all,
I am currently unemployed and I’m seeking a shadowing placement to extend my health and safety knowledge and experience. My current benefits will be protected as long as this is under the IOSH umbrella which IOSH have confirmed, thus I am able to offer my services for free, however reasonable expenses for my travel would be appreciated if outside of my local area. It would be my intention to work with my shadowing partner, contributing to his/her output, while gaining valuable experience and learning the ropes, I live near Hastings and I am within commuting distance of London.
This would allow me to gain valuable experience within the profession, and possibly lead to a more permanent ‘paid’ role.
I have 28yrs experience in the construction industry as a Scaffolder, 18yrs as foreman on various contracts in and around London, Tunnelling work at Kings Cross and Stratford CTRL, also London Underground Tunnelling Links works at Kings Cross, as well as HGV Class 1 Driver, so a varied career so far, obtained Nebosh 2010, Tech IOSH this year.
Please e-mail me at martin212645@hotmail.com Tel 07547365203 or post suggestions on the forum.
Regards, Martin.

Hi Martin
Get in touch with Carolyn Issett at IOSH. She's in charge of the workplace shadowing scheme, and she could possibly help in getting you onto one of the placements. You have to either be a graduate, or be of graduate calibre, to qualify, so have a chat with her, as she's the best person to advice you.

Hi Ron,
Yes I’ll certainly do that, I’ve been in touch with him a few times, and got some good advice.
A good one was to video myself doing a presentation, then play back so I can see the pauses, uhms and ahs, expect there’ll be quite a few.
Thanks, Martin.

That's actually a pretty good idea, I might have to give it a go! I was just thinking yesterday of something I could do to fine tune my presentation skills.
