Afernoon All, I currently work for a subcontractor in the building industry. Recently while working on site a member of our team received a head knock (thankfully wearing a hard hat) from a beam suspended on chains waiting to be attached to an existing structure. The worker was left feeling a little dazed but at the time hospital treatment was deemed unessesary. He asked the contractor for access to the accident book to report the incident and this was refused. No time off work has been required. Now i'm not quite sure where to go from here. I have recorded the incident in my own company's accident book. I believe that sometimes head knocks can take a while to turn into something more problematic and think a record should have been taken on site or possibly even a hospital visit made as it was a considerable amount of weight making the impact. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly received. Arnold

I think the Principal Contractor should be the one to record the accident - your record is a good additional record of course. I believe under CDM that the Principal Contractor should include the reporting of accidents and incidents within the site induction process, not sure if it's in the ACoP though.
