Has anyone who has carried out Volatilie Organic Compaound monitoring in a construction or any other environment got any information on the subject or procedures that they would be willing to share?

you may need to be slightly more specific - what are you measuring specifically; for what are you measuring; how far away are you measuring; what else is happening in the vicinity etc.

It relates to indoor air quality relating to CO2 levels and VOC monitoring from items such as benzene, formaldehyde and napthalene that can be released by building materials. It would be monitoring during the construction phase with results given at handover.

This type of monitoring is actually somewhat more complicated than many assume. It is easy to use equipment to obtain results that are not valid. For me this is a task for a qualified occupational hygienist who not only has the right equipment but the relevant training and experience. I would recomment contacting the Bitish Occupational Hygiene Society who can let you have names and addresses of occupational hygienists in your area. BOSH phone number is 01332 250712

There is some very good equipment available for hire backed by excellent technical support. This ranges from handheld equipment with full data logging for source detection and process monitoring, to more complex fixed equipment that are probably outside your needs. All equipment comes with a training plan and control materials. Data are accepted by EA and others for regulatory purposes. I have used this kit previously. Contact me if you want details of the supplier, with whom I have no connection other than being a satisfied customer.
