We currently tax and fit registration plates all our site forklift trucks and telehandlers, however our site dumpers and various other ride on plant such as rollers have not been covered by this. We have recently been informed by our fleet manager that we now have to tax and have registration plates fitted to all our ride on plant. can anyone confirm whether or not this is correct and perhaps push me in the right direction relating to information on this matter. thanks in advance allan

Perhaps a confusion with this voluntary registration scheme, which provides a registration but doesn't need to be displayed? http://www.direct.gov.uk...groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_067209.pdf

allan, if you need to use your vehicles on a public road you will need to register (plates) and tax them at your nearest DVLA local office. But if they are used only on site and transported on trailers then no need. Some vehicles with limited use on public road need registration but don't pay tax, but I think that's just agricultural. I tried to register some gate-to-gate FLTs once without paying tax but DVLA was having none of it.
