Its a new one for me, but has anyone had a call and follow up email from the HSE asking for the number of employees and agency on site and the name of the H&S Adviser/Manager? and if so should I be expecting a vist? (P.S. it was genuine HSE email address so no people scouting for info, business etc)

Trust nothing especially via the computer if they have provided a telephone number call them back and confirm the situation otherwise wait. I would be very very very careful if responding to an email without some sort of telephone conservation to make things clear before hand

Was the email address one with ending hse.gsi.gov.uk? That is the how genuine HSE accounts should look. Did they state that they were from your local office (I am assuming Norwich)? And did they give a phone number. That is something the HSE are reluctant to do these days.

Yes and Yes, They phoned first and then sent the letter through and yes the email did end in hse.gsi.gov.uk. They called our head office for the info. I'm just wondering if its just an exercise in updating their records or a prelude to a visit as we had a recent 7day + RIDDOR involving machinery.

Answer them - then ask why they require the information.

It was answered by head office, they just let me know for my information. I shall just have to wait and see if they turn up then!

The email was probably due to the RIDDOR but I would say that it's likely that: 1) if they were going to visit they would have had this info from you at the visit - so may be ulikely 2) They may have requested this info to deicde whether a visit will be made. Either way, you'll be down on the inspectors "put aside for a visit when-you-can-but-no-rush" list.

It is probable that your RIDDOR is being considered for investigation, and if you have not been visited for a while, or your site is not on their database, a request will have gone to the admin team to enquire as to your current employment situation. Your details will then be passed back to the inspecting group who will decide whether an investigation is required, or whether a visit should be made, or that no further action is necessary.
