Hi

Can someone give me any tips for the peer interview. Do they ask technical questions and how long does it last. I have mine very soon. I am ok with doing the presentation but I want to know what parts of the interview I am being judged on

HI Lois

I have just had mine, they ask about your presentation and then ask questions form the form you can download
Have examples ready for questions asked
Also what the code of conduct means to you
I was also asked if I had any questions at the end which I did not have any prepared
Your presentation must not run over 15mins you will be given a two minute warning make sure your timing is good
Enjoy they do try and calm you down which easier said than done
Be prepared you will be fine

Go to:

http://www.iosh.co.uk/about_us.aspx

About half way down in the middle you'll see "Code of Conduct" - you can download it as a pdf.

Good Look!

Lois,

Have a look / search on the Study discussion forum pages. There are a number of examples of how this went for different people.

For my own part I felt mine was awful. I was made very welcome by the IOSH lady but not by the panel and I found the p Chairman very intimidating and overbearing. I convinced myself that I had failed and was most surprised to find that I had got through it.It proabably helpled that when I was asked questions that I could not answer I was honests and said that I did not know- but went on to say how I would address this in a real life situation.

To be fair, the process is about you as an individual and the panel are there to tease things out of you so that they can confirm you are who you say ypou are and that you can talk about yourself andwhat you do.

Do not get to worked up about the Code of Conduct. You just need to be able to articulate what it means to you - for example, knowing your limits, acting professionaly at all times and not bringing the Institutioin into disrepute.

Do let us know how yopu get on.

Also worth noting when you book the peer interview they send you everything you need.
Code of conduct, sample presentation and the question sheet.

So far the support I have had booking my mine has been superb. It would be difficult for me to get back to the UK for a face to face so we are doing it over Skype. Could be interesting.

Everyone I've spoken to so far idicates the panel do try to put the candidate at ease throughout, I'm undoubtably nervous but on the other hand I'm actually looking forward to it. At the end of the day how often in every day life do we get the chance to show off the achievements and hard work we've put it in to get here??

Good luck with the interview.....

Cheers

Your peer review is about you, how you arrived at where you are and that what you say you have done, you have done.
There are no trick questions, just questions taken from your experience. You may be given a scenario and asked to explain what you would do but again it will be based on your experience, it will not be about something outside your expertise.
The panel are looking to ensure that you have the baseline competence to be a Chartered member of IOSH who will develop and grow with time, they are not looking for a fully developed chartered member so just be yourself, be honest and answer the questions to the best of your ability, if you don't know or don't understand say so.
Don't waffle, do read the code of conduct and think about what it means.

Relax & enjoy the experience

Good Luck
