Hi, we use a refractory ceramic wool (looks like loft insulation) to place over hot steel ingots. The operatives throw this product to the floor when removing from the ingots (possible dust 7 fibres). Has anyone had experience of using this product or have they found a safer alternative - I believe it is a class 2 carcinogen (asbestos is class 1). The simple solution would be to get those who use it to treat it with respect but I would rather have it removed fro site.

RCF is no longer used. Or it shouldn't be! It is being removed from many industrial locations/ activities. We use, and have done for some years now, a substitute material called 'Insulfrax'. Other products are available too, you know. Get googling or talk to an insulation supplier. It's not hard to source. Get the MSDS/ COSHH and that sorted out first. Then develop a working procedure for it's use. Et voila...
