Good morning all
I have been working on CDM projects for a number of years (small projects local authority types) and have been working in the role of CDM co ordinator. I have been asked to produce a Risk Register in order for me to gain entry with a certain professional body. The reason I am looking to gain membership with this provisional body is due to the recent request that I hold this membership in order for me to continue my employment and progress. The question:
I have found Risk Register templates online and get the general jist of it (as it seems its something that I have already been doing just not in such a format). Can any body provide me with a simple template and guidance note on using such a document.
I am being extra diligent because my next step is to hopefully, oversee larger contracts and progress in this profession, and furthermore, continue with my current employers. Also, I would like to ensure that once I have used this certain method of recording adverse risk, I can adopt this approach for best practice on future projects I oversee.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you all in advance...................

Hi, I am carrying out a CDM Role in a similar capacity. I have found a simple risk register document on the APS website, i can not find it now; furthermore I am finding it difficult to attach the document on here.
If you would care to send me your e-mail address i can forward it to you.
Regards
Andy

Hi,
there can be confusion about Risk Registers. The Association for Project Safety explains them in their "Guide to the Management of CDM Co-ordination".
There must be a clear distinction between an overall project “Risk Register” and a “Hazard and Risk Register”. The latter is 100% focused on the health and safety aspects of work to the structures comprising the project. The former identifies all and any issues that can affect the commercial, financial and economic status of a project and its timely delivery and these could include “show stopping” Health and Safety aspects of a project.
Free information about Project Management can be downloaded from
www.projectagency.com
Note that this is a commercial organisation but they also provide a lot of free stuff.

jarsmith,
Risk Registers [CDM Risk Registers (CDMRR)] can be simple or complex (subject to each project). The fundamentals of a CDMRR can be found in The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 Industry Guidance for Designers (CDM07/04) Section 2.7:
http://www.cskills.org/u...rs4web_07_tcm17-4643.pdf
In essence, the CDMRR follows the ERIC Model (Eliminate, Reduce, Information & Control). The 'C' Control of the resulting risks then belongs to other duty holders.
For straight forward projects this CDMRR can be simple and small scale. As previously stated, for complex / high risk projects the CDMRR would likely be comprehensive with multiple rows, disciplines, contributors and iterations.
The key of the CDMRR is to maintain its currency. Someone would need to take overall ownership of that, e.g. Design Lead. Weekly / Monthly review of the CDMRR should take place until all significant issues have been addressed, information has been transferred etc.
Finally, the CDMRR will become a vital tool when pulling the H&S File together.
