I'd like to network with others in the retail industry - I work for a national well known retailer and I would like to network with fellow peers working in the same sector.......what is the best way to do that???

Hi Lois,
As a member of the retail and distribution group you should be able to see the network forum on the IOSH forum homepage, that's probably a good place to start :)
Also check out the retail and distribution group page: http://www.iosh.co.uk/gr..._distribution_group.aspx
Feel free to PM me to share email etc.

Lois - the title of your thread led me to wonder whether any future reductions in the membership of the House of Lords might result in any newly redundant members seeking alternative employment in the retail sector! Though it's admittedly stretching the imagination somewhat, a supermarket might find that having, say, a viscount working the meat counter or a duchess in the dairy section might be an unusual way of attracting more customers! Also, from what I've seen and heard of such people (including having had afternoon tea with an earl years ago), some of them are very down-to-earth individuals with good interpersonal skills which would be useful in retail. :-)

Lois,
I did the same in Motorsport, I wrote to the individual teams directly, all responded and for the last 6 years we have been running our own group, which encompasses companys affected by our operations. We meet once every few months at each others HQ's and share problems, recommend products/suppliers etc. as we all produce the same thing, for the same aim and pretty much encounter the same problems. Our group has grown to include our insurers, race circuits etc. We will also help each other out on particular issues regardless of the fact we are competitors on track. All I can suggest is that you perhaps write to an amount of the retail groups, and suggest forming a retail safety group or such, with your aims and thoughts. You may be suprised what comes back.
