Dear All The trade union Prospect has published a rather interesting document marking the anniversary of the Robens Report - 19th July 1972. It contains 40 anecdotes from Inspectors about incidents that have occurred within their career. For those who get fed up with Government ministers maintaining the 'elf an' safety' fallacy this provides an antidote. Can be freely downloaded at: www.prospect.org.uk/40at40 Read it and weep. Nigel

There are some interesting stories there and it is good to see things from the Inspectors' perspective. The link above works but you need a few clicks to get to the actual document here: http://www.prospect.org....df?_ts=5185&_ts=5185

No apologies from me for dredging this thread up from semi-oblivion. Many thanks to Nigel B for telling us about the Prospect document back in late July as, sadly, there seemed to be no other mention of it and the 40th anniversary of the Robens Report at the time. I just wonder how many forum users had a look at it and what they thought of it. Perhaps it takes longer for some matters in life to get the publicity they deserve. The latest edition of IOSH's monthly magazine "The Safety & Health Practitioner" (Sept, page 22) contains a letter by Nigel B about the document. I wholly agree with the comments he makes in his letter and similarly urge anyone who hasn't yet read the document to do so. Furthermore, please think of and take opportunities to share it and counter the myths about "elf n safety".

Maybe we all ought to send this to our own MP ?

I've dredged for this thread yet again after mentioning it in a response to a new thread about handling buckets and then finding that I needed 3 attempts to locate it using the forum search facility even though I'd correctly quoted the thread's title. Also, the link quoted in #2 to the "40 at 40" document seems to be incomplete, so try using http://www.prospect.org....?_ts=83047&_ts=83047
