Hello, Is there a legal requirement on checking this equipment, for example LEV is 14 months. Thanks for your help Katie

It's not prescribed by law, so far as I can recall. However - electric welding equipment would normally be PAT tested. You also need to keep an eye on any insulation as many welding processes give off substantial quantities of ozone which can attack polymers Gas equipment needs checks on regulators, with replacement at intervals. Likewise in gas welding there should be checks on flashback arrestors, blowpipes etc.

As someone who recently started in health and safety in the welding/fabrication industry I found the following websites quite good for information: http://www.bcga.co.uk/index.html http://www.boconline.co.uk/health/index.asp http://www.airproducts.c...t-health-and-safety.aspx In particular reference to maintenance of equipment, if you can get hold of BCGA Code of Practice CP7 The Safe Use of Oxy-Fuel Gas Equipment (Individual Portable or Mobile Cylinder Supply) it has a section on maintenance of welding equipment in it detailing what should be done and when.
