We have an examined and certified MEWP and staff trained to use it. It seems a waste that when we have contractors on site carrying out maintenance work they have to hire in a similar piece of kit, the cost of which obviously gets passed onto us. The contractor’s workers are MEWP trained. Can we let them use ours? I’m concerned about liability and insurance.

Hi Ian

We had a similar issue. We own a scissor lift and MEWP and now 'hire' this out to any contractors who wish to use them.

We spoke to our insurers - if we formally hire the equipment out to the user, along with a Conditions of Hire Agreement, they wouldn't have a problem.

Speak to your insurance company and discuss it with them.

Hope this helps.

Best regards

Barry
