I frequently look at the vacancies and there are very few in the South Wales area, if any at all. If any employer is looking for someone who is from a military background and a good working knowledge of Health and Safety, with 5 years experience as a trainer/advisor, who is keen and reliable please contact me and I will happily supply you with much more information.
Many thanks
Mike

The job oppurtunites in South Wales seem to be very limited compared to the level of industry business in the area. It seems that a lot of industries with bases in South Wales have head offices in other locations where the Health and Safety departments are located.
I spent 3 years waiting for a suitable Health and Safety Role and gained further experience in Health and Safety (but not a designated H&S role) in my previous employment to go with this. And then 3 oppurtunities where advitised within the space of weeks of each other.
Keep going and keep your head up - also try looking slightly further afield - bristol, gloucester etc
Good Luck

Its just as bad in Mid Wales too - I am looking at jobs in range from Bristol to Brum. to Cheshire, Manchester and Liverpool as well as N+S Wales - very little within a 2hr drive which is very disheartening but the price I pay for living in the countryside I guess. Even with my engineering, manufacturing, retail and transport experience as well as Chartered status there apperas to very little about.

Mike, it's a case of being around in the right place at the right time. I work away from home for 5 days of the week at the moment in hope of a more local placed job, even thinking of self employment when I achieve Chartered membership and have had 5 years experience in Construction environment and learning how civi street works. Many peers in the construction industry work away from home.

Sign up to Jobrapido. I get 3 or 4 emails a week for jobs in Wales, and they all seem to be in S Wales (to me, cos I'm not). The industry / population is in S Wales, but limited to the coastal strip really, East West. No South (the sea) and North is the valleys.
Amazon are recruiting . . .

I have seen many adverts for Amazon over the past year and there was an advert in SHP a month or two ago. I am scratching my head why it cannot be filled or do the new starters leave after a short period there?

I have also wondered about this, the job has been advertised for well over a year as you say. I haven't applied as I have not had any warehouse experience and not CMIOSH which they want.
I wonder if the job is really H&S as they also talk about, Quality things such as Lean, 5S, Kaizen and also productivity improvements. Perhaps the money is low or conditions not good, so people don't stay.
I know there are H&S job seekers much closer to Swansea than myself, so wonder what the issue is. It's a real job advertised on Amazons own web site, not a made up one by an agency.

I too live in South Wales, and am lucky enough to have my perfect job, but do look about from time to time. It does seem like lean times in this part of the world. I think if I ever decide to leave I'd go abroad. Sunshine and plenty of work for all, can't fault it!

When you follow the link from SHP4JOBS, the recruiting agency list this as a one month contract @ £150 per annum ( no I didn't miss type). SHP say £150 per day. Other agencies are also quoting £150 per annum, but that can't be correct can it ?.
Ah well keep looking.

What is it with potential employers that they seem to almost always ask for someone with experience of their particular sector? (relating to the Amazon advert wanting warehouse experience). I can understand the nuclear and other high-hazard sectors, but warehousing? Any safety practitioner should be able to adapt to most medium risk sectors, surely? We are selling our profession short. What do employers think the SP does, to make it essential that they have actually worked for a warehouse? I was rejected by a recruitment agency to be put forward for a job in FM. I have bags of council experience, and property management / FM is always a large component (in with all the other stuff). The client specifically asked for someone only from an FM company. How hard is FM H&S? Frankly, recruitment agencies should be advising their clients better, but I have always ignored "experience" elements in direct applications, with some success. Nothing ventured . . . Todays buyers market makes it trickier I guess.

Have you tried the Power stations, LNG in Pembrokeshire (South Hook Dragon, Murco etc)?
Consider contracting.
Good luck
