Hi my colleague and I are looking for suitable apps to assist us in influencing the behavior of others e.g. we know of a sound meter app that alarms if you walk into a dangerously loud environment is any one out there aware of any other apps that may be useful for employees, representatives and managers?

That's a cool idea, but one has to wonder at how loud it would have to be so that they could hear it above the dangerously loud noise? Anyway, I would think that you've already signed you noise zones. Any idea if it measures dose? A link might be interesting.

Do the HSE have any monthly myth busting apps?

Chris

Maybe a BS detector to take into Safety Meetings?

Lloyd
I found a number for the iPad which may be of use..

1: iAuditor which has a number of templates and an option to develop new ones.

2: Chem Safety which lists chemicals alphabetically and links to data sheets.

3: Gas Detection (Drager app) which again lists chemicals and Drager Detectors, it includes a gas guide and products listing and search facility.

4: Safety symbols.

From experience these apps (sound measuring) are dubious. We have had individuals within the work place conducting their own noise evaluations is then reported within our internal incident / accident reporting system as excessive, without any knowledge of exposure action levels.
This then triggers the need to formally measure these noise levels using approved, calibrated equipment by competent Occupational Hygienists. There is often a disparity of up to 30dB.

Also for the iPhone / iPad:

I have 'decibel ultra' on my iPhone, in direct comparison with a calibrated meter it is within 3 - 5 dB, close enough for a quick and dirty feel for the area before doing the survey.

site audit pro does a fair job at keeping notes and pictures, create .pdf for e-mailing to desktop.

luxmeter pro does a fair job

site safety is a fair 15 screen audit with scoring and mapping

Loads to look at, mostly good for prompting further questions.

Really! - That's 10 time 'louder'!!!
The difference between a quite conversation(60dB) and a lawn mower (90bB)

I have always found the app on my phone is to quote SNS "close enough for a quick and dirty feel"
An inspector friend has used an android app to request more detailed surveys! It's a bit more scientific than the 2m rule... that's all we need.

It actually 1000 times louder( more energy), which is a BIG disparity

Thanks for your input, all of you, our intention is to make our employees aware of these apps so they can get engaged and assist in keeping each other safe and health. Can anyone recommend any of the following:
> Light meters (lux)
> Wind speed (for using inflatables out doors and testing spray booths)
> Indoor/outdoor temperature app
> General H&S apps etc.

Many thanks Lloydy
