New position, can anyone Advise me please

Good Afternoon all,
I have recently moved to a position in Risk Management for an insurance broker (6months ago) after my job was at risk in my former company, I found out after I was employed as a risk manager that this role involves selling both my service and products. Something which was never ever discussed at any point until my first week of employment. I am deeply unhappy at having to do this, and want to move to a new position as soon as I can. I have registered with a number of agencies and updated my CV, but I keep getting rejection letters, from roles I apply for, I know that times are hard, and that there are loads of people looking for jobs, but I am getting really desperate to return to a and Safety Manager or Advisor role for a company, as this job is having a bad effect on my health.
really Would appreciate any advice that people can give me regarding my job search, I have been in health and safety for over 20 years and I am CMIOSH.
many thanks
Carol

Just keep on applying, something will come about eventually. In the mean time, perhaps you can add to your CV by doing some sort of course

Thanks Lawlee, the recruiters are telling me that qualifications wise I haven't got a problem its just location in the north west, although I prefer multi site, across the UK, I cant relocate on a permanent basis.

Happy days, well if you are willing why not try the south / south east area?
All the best with it, and dont get too down about it, give your all for now

You describe a tough challenge.....The serious risk is that the harder you push, you more stressed you'll feel, so that you get into a downward spiral.
May I suggest acting on two fronts
1. Control your level of stress: 'Get out of your mind and into your life', by Steve Hayes is an excellent guide to this tricky challenge. Now one of the world leading trainers in 'Acceptance and Commitment Therapy', Steve has acknowledged that he began to develop this very flexible approach by recognising how was creating stress for himself (during a university staff meeting, when he found he was so wound up he literally couldn't speak).
2. Hire an independet coaching psychologist, to help you figure out how to raise the standard of your communication, on paper and in person, as you look for a job. The right person may be able to work with you by phone during an evening or weekends. You are likely to find her or him on the BPS Register of Coaching psychologists (perhaps ideally a chartered psychologist who is also a CMIOSH).
Luck helps; stamina is necessary. Many Olympians had both but practically all the winners acknowledged the difference that the right coach made to her or him.

I've just landed a new job in H&S.
To do this I:
1. Put together a good CV, ran it past an agency offering a free service -you get a limited response back but any feedback is better than none; I ran it past a CEO friend of mine and whilst I sold myself I didn't make it sound like I was the second coming.
2. Create an account on as many jobsites as you can and sign up for emails notifying you of new jobs.
3. Checked almost daily for new jobs anyway.
4. Checked regional newspaper weekly.
5. Most interviews are competency based these days I have found so think of a scenario you can pull straight out of your memory bank if you get an interview and you are asked the question about - being criticised; greatest success; weakness; disagreement with manager; a job that is failing which you have turned around; a time when you have worked under pressure; an innovative idea..etc etc (This for me is probably key- have good stories at the ready and you'll be more confident). Remember to use the STAR approach.
6. Usual rules about dress presentation
7. Go for a job interview even if you dont think you'll take it - helps build the confidence for the one you will take.
8. Research a company - you are always asked 'What do you know about us'
9. Swot up on maths and english - pyschometric testing is very popular although in my opinion they prove nothing
Plod on, dont take rejection too personally, eventually something comes up.

Thanks for the response, have done all of the above, but I appreciate the advice anyway.
Really hard not to get despondent but I just need to keep trying

Pm'd you but agree with everything Big Al has written...you can practice the psychometric tests as a lot of companies use them for first screening on applicants and once you've done a number of them, they do become easier [would be absolutely hopeless if I tried one now!].
Good luck!
