Hi All,

Just after same advice, is there a recommended height that fall protection must be worn??

I am covering a R/A on over head cranes, on a mezz floor and I am thinking about maintenance?

isnt it at any height where there could be a fall and an injury, full fall protection (PPE) is a last resort

UK law I assume

Then - no

You must follow the hierarchy in the regulations.

1) Avoid Work at Height
2) Prevent falls
3) Minimise consequences

Is there anyway you can place guard rails around the mezzanine floor? If you could then work from that area, it would negate the need for fall protection.

If the mezzanine cannot be used then a mobile tower scaffold, MEWP or fall protection ( as a last resort) could be used.

Remember if using fall protection you need to allow six meters for the equipment and user (2 meters for the lanyard, 2 meters for the concertina web and 2 meters for the individual).

Sorry perhaps I should have been more clear in the first place,

The mezz floor does have guard rails, on all sides, located on top is the overhead traveling crane, it carries loads of up to 1 tonn. ( so it is not a very big one)

All the usual hierarchy is applied. All I was wondering is - is there a written requirement of a certain height?

but having read some more regulations a bit more closely, I understand now that height is where a fall could occur.

Thanks Every one for all your help !!
