There's a few industry specific organisations I use, IMCA, IMO, MCA, Step Change etc. I'm not sure, generically what other one's I would use.....IRRSM I suppose although I tend not to refer to them much now......

I would certainly consider joining the British Occupational Hygiene Society. It is a learned society that welcomes anyone with an interest in occupational health and safety. As such it is a 'cosmopolitan' organisation with members coming from many different disciplines. Thus it is a clearing house where you will generally find someone with specialist expertise in a particular topic associated with health and safety.

Surely the correct answer is....no! (brownie points please)

Similar organisations exist but are more focussed on corporate rather than individual membership, for example the British Safety Council and ROSPA

Depends what you man by on a 'parr'.

For example, not everyone holds IOSH in high standing for example!

Chris Packham mentioned the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). I've heard/read that some branches of BOHS and IOSH have arrangements by which their respective members can attend the other organisation's meetings if they are not members of both. Please can anyone confirm if my understanding is correct? If it is, such arrangements would make good sense in view of the overlap of professional interest regarding various topics.

On a related note, I can add that the monthly meetings of the inimitable Public Services Section of IOSH's Manchester and North West Districts Branch are usually open to all members of IOSH, their guests and also any visitors with an interest in OS&H. Furthermore, I strongly hope that the same applies to regular meetings of other parts of the IOSH Network. This would accord with IOSH's aim of spreading the message about OS&H. In addition, IOSH and its members could well benefit through information and constructive suggestions received from visitors and guests.

I'm a specialist member of IRM, and they do talk about H&S but are more focused on aspects like business continuity, MIP and so on, they also have a strong focus on financial and other pure business risks. Not a bad outfit though, and I'm enjoying their Dip, which is hard,
