I am half way through my Nebosh dip. and am starting to think of what I should do to kick start my career change to a position soley related to H&S. I have several years of experience as a Union H&S rep followed by a position as a workplace nominated rep for a different company.
Both roles were within manufacturing and my job as a team leader also gives my experience managing people as well as KPI targets.
I was hoping to pass the dip. with flying colours and go on to find a position soley as a H&S advisor in some capacity but seeing some of the posts on this forum have made me start to worry a little about finding something suitable or even anything at all!
I would be interested in any advice on what steps I should take next to find my entry level position or even if there is anything out there for me on the South coast.

My suggestion is to remain in your current position and consider other options such as a degree qualification in logistics management, supply chain managment or transport/logistics. Bolt on a NEBOSH and you should land a job in time. You will struggle to find a job with a sole NEBOSH diploma with no pqe.

There is a national saturation of safety bods and too few jobs to satisfy.

Thank you for your reply but degree qualification is not an option at this time. I have many years experience within H&S and competence within the field as well as other IOSH, RoSPA and CIEH certificates.
I believe I can find a role for myself out there and a defeatist attitude is something I do not possess. I may "struggle" to find a job but I know I will succeed.
Does anybody else have any more positive ideas about how to get myself noticed or become a "better candidate" when applying for or attending interviews and which jobs I should be applying for?

I know how you feel mate I am also studying for my diploma which is very demanding of any spare time that I have.I worked for a smaller construction company and trying to get up the ladder into a principal contractor is not easy you just need to keep your head up I managed to find a post with a principal contractor although it is not long term I feel it was too good an opportunity to turn down as it is a step in the right direction and although I have been there only a short time you learn a hell of a lot. Hope you pass your diploma trying to do mine between 12 to 18 months tops then apply for CMOISH.
