We are looking to use an InspireX R20L Vertical Beam X-Ray machine from Mettler Toledo, I have no experience at all with ionising radiation and although I'm aware of the Ionising Radiation Regulations I really dont know where to start! Any advice appreciated.

Supplier should be able to provide full information, instruction and training. Your awareness of the Regs needs to be progressed to knopwledge and understanding. Plenty of training providers on internet. Plus I'm sure an enterprising consultant with skills in that area (not me) will respond soon!

You need to employ the services of a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA). There are plenty of us out there. A simple search should throw up various providers. Kevin

Advise your local HSE if you're going to go ahead with a machine

Check radiation regulations for licensing requirements for radiation source. You may also have to notify the Fire Brigade of the location of the radiation source within the building to ensure they are aware of its location should they have to respond to an incident in the building housing it.

We don't, on the basis that ours are fully enclosed and shielded and if you want to make them safe you simply turn the electricity off. Radioactive sources are a different matter.
