Should we continue to use living subjects in scientific experimentation? If yes, how long should we expose the subjects including the mental and physical stresses?

1) Yes, where important medical research (Cancer, MS etc) is involved, but No for when testing a new shampoo, eye shadow or detergent
2) Comparing the mental & physical stress many humans endure when suffering severe life changing illnesses and similar suffering to rats, is complex and difficult, but is worth continuing. Don't forget the Planet of the Apes films - they would do it to us if they had a chance! :)

The Declaration of Helsinki, for research involving humans, and the many national and international ethical guidelines plus remarkably robust regulation governing individuals and institutions involved in animal experimentation should provide you with sufficient information to answer your question.
