In the HSE's Open Learning Guidance on LOLER it says, regarding examination of lifting equipment:
"Thorough examination after installation and reconfiguration should be based on risk assessment. An examination does not apply to mobile lifting equipment."
I can't find anything in LOLER itself about such an exception. Can anyone expand on this? We have two hand-pumped hydraulic cranes with wheels, of the type that are often used to remove car engines.
Thanks, John.

I'd interpret that as meaning that as mobile equipment isn't installed, it doesn't need a TE as part of installation (as there isn't one). It doesn't mean it's completely exempt from TE (it certainly isn't).

Thanks Kate, it makes sense now. 9(1) still applies but 9(2) is not relevant for mobile equipment.
