Anyone see this?
Shocking things going on
Diving with no bail out cylinder
Diving with no back up supply
Diving for 4 hours with no deco stops
No guard on suction airlift (girl got dragged in)
No prop guards on boats.

Some serious issues noted there and I take my hat off to your obvious knowledge on the subject. Apart from the fact that it is really a hobby (so I doubt that the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 would apply, see USA legislation) and that being in the USA it’s an issue for OSHA not the HSE.
As an aircraft fitter for 25 years in a previous life I sometimes wonder about the standards seen on programs such as “ice road crab fishing death trap airborne bush pilot storage lock up tree felling coppers with cameras” series 16 (the brand new series) on “shush you know who TV”. Bearing in mind that the type of TV channel that you may see these sorts of programs on are essentially the TV equal to the “current bun” and set at the same low academic level. What else did we all expect; after all it certainly makes good viewing.
Now lets all have some fun with your helium, anyone know the woodpecker song or how to play uckers?

Hi Phil,
Ive been watching it, I have been shocked aswell, im sure I heard on one of the episodes that that the girl had never dived before which im presuming includes diver training.
I have recently done the PADI open water course and am aware of some of the dangers of being under the water.
I think I heard that they dive around 5 metres, am not sure how that would affect the decon time with being down around 4 hours, but I would definitely want a back up system or at least a full face mask with intercom to person on the boat.
Will keep on watching it though.

Hi Pete,
All looks very worrying doesn't it?
I can't see how they get away with not being "at work" and coming under the relevant diving regs. as they are recovering the gold for money, not a hobby. Even if they were claiming it to be "sports diving" they are way outside any of their regs too!!
