Does anyone know of an Occupation Health Specialist who could advise my team of welders on the benefits of having the PPV23 vaccination. This a single event vaccination that protects persons at risk from pneumonia based respiratory illnesses.

Rich, Studies have shown the mortality rate for pneumonia is higher in welders exposed to welding fume. That is welders who are currently welding, it drops off following retirement/cessation of job. Word of caution with the vaccine, you may be placing some of your welders at greater risk of ill health by giving them the jab. You need to take proper medical advice. Your best method is control at source.

Hi John, I am still in the investigation stages but have seen advice at: www.personneltoday.com/A...esearch.htm#.UFNErbKPUsQ and http://www.constructione...-can-save-welders-lives/ I already provide airfed masks and have LEV at source but thought that there is probably some "escape" during the working day and that it might well be worth offering this vaccination to those who want it. Thanks for your advice. Dave Bufton
