We have recently been pulled by VOSA in one of our vans. We carry limited quantities and small loads only. We do not transport anything that does not fall into these categories. VOSA has said that we must get our vans marked up with corrosive symbol as we transport a small amount of lead acid batteries in their final form and VOSA also said we should be marked up for carrying air con gas. We were told we didnt need to do this due to the small loads etc. Is it best practice or must we get the vans marked up?

Not sure but I was lead to believe you are meant to show a green diamond even if you've only got a divers bottle in the boot so quite possibly.

There is no requirement to place labels/placards on your vans if you are transporting under the small load thresholds, or Limited Quantity. In fact there is no requirement at all unless carrying Explosives or Radioactives where the 250mm x 250mm placards are required. or if the journey involves a sea crossing again 250mm placards. I suspect you are talking about the 100mm x100mm labels these are used for packages and not for vehicles.

As above. Whoever stopped you is wrong. And to be honest I'd be phoning and complaining. (Wanna be cops!) I toyed with idea of placing markers on our vans, but problem arises when they vans are empty. It becomes misleading to emergency services. You could put removable signs on if you think your drivers are disciplined enough to take them on and off? Mine aren't! But I decided to leave them off as we don't carry enough and if the signs (or placards) were showing when the vehicle had an accident it could lead to over reaction by emergency services (through no fault of their own) and also scares the bejeesus out of some of our clients!

I agree with phargreaves04 . No need to display anything on the outside of the vehicle. Also, roshqse has a point about a complaint. I certainly would! Andy
