Any vehicle used for business has to have suitable business cover in the insurance policy. It costs very little when done as part of the original cover. I covered mine for about ten quid a year.

If they are at work then yes and they must have business cover. If they are commuting to a place of work then no. They still need to ensure that their cover includes commuting; most do but not all.

As an alternative it is often possible to get the employer's Motor Insurer to accept employees vehicles onto the firm's fleet policy for those times when such vehicles are used on company business. Doesn't make any difference to the need to check licenses etc

oops!
If on business, yes. The risk is the driver's though, not the employer's.

Yes! My insurance provider added it to my cover for free. The cost will be dependant on the mileage

Strictly speaking Bob, yes you are right, but if an employee has his car written off following an accident and is not insured as they didn't have business use, it could create a business risk, particularly if that employee had a critical role within the business.

Insurance is personal on any policy, even the current multi-car policies only cover the owner or named drivers. You can expand the question in many different ways such as inspection and testing of both the car and the driver but that is outwith the original question. If you use any vehicle for business purposes it must have suitable cover, end of.
