Professional indemnity and depending on who your clients are likely to be - will have a bearing on how much, and public liability. Are you planning on taking on associates? If so you will need then to check they too have suitable and sufficient insurance

You can get professional indemnity insurance through IOSH (look under IOSH extras) if you are wondering where to start.

As said Prof Indemnity is a must. You will not need EL - no employees! But you should get some Public Liability. If you put your briefcase down and someone trips over it they might sue - such a claim would not be covered under your PI. Remember to ensure your Motor policy is extended to cover business use. It would be prudent to speak to your household insurer.... they do NOT expect a business to form part of a "household". For example there will be business equipment etc so sums insured may need to be increased. I'm not relly able to offer life type advice but you may want to ask an adviser about income protection/critical illness cover. If you are reliant on your income and you were injured e.g. sporting inury or taken ill e.g. canceer then you could not earn but bills e.g. mortgage would still need to be paid. In a similar vein a simple Personal Accident policy might be useful in providing some low level of income if you were not able to work. Hope that helps Phil
