Great to see this forum back on line. I was surprised by how stifling it felt not being able to contribute to this forum or rant about the latest government vitriolic spin, lies or rhetoric on H&S!

Ah Buzz, were you just 'surprised' or were you frustrated and unsettled? I wonder how may posters here typed up messages and saved them in a text doc until Monday :o)

Shame they could not stick to stated targets and have not explained why it overran the seven days. Obviously an IT company/consultancy not to use again. Hope there were some good penalty clauses. Bob

walker In making your assertion about Buzzlightyear, do you know for certain that he is not an ex-public school pupil?!!! Also, come to think of it, you seem to assume that Buzz is a male, perhaps because the cartoon character beneath his/her credentials is male. Furthermore, Buzz's use of words like 'vitriolic' and 'rhetoric' suggest that he/she isn't a pleb. Moreover, he/she evidently knows how to use capital letters unlike some forum users including yourself!!!! Graham :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) (multiple smileys to emphasise that this message is sent mainly in jest.) p.s. By sheer coincidence I was away on holiday with no internet access last week and earlier this week while the forum was off-line. Therefore, I was unable to feel bereft at having no facility to contribute to the forum!

Typical! I'd heard it was you that broke it Graham. :-)

So that's who caused it! You should be ashamed of yourself, Graham. P.S. - hope my punctuation comes up to scratch.

Though I wondered if the forum would re-appear with a clearly displayed disclaimer of the sort which it originally had, there's evidently been no change. Therefore, those of us who think that the forum should have a disclaimer (to protect IOSH's reputation and also to advise against reliance on forum postings) remain free to continue to press for one! :-)

I heard that one of the main changes was to limit the number of characters that can be used in any one post. ;-) Andy

The forum is not the only way we can make our valued points, I did notice a letter by Graham to a South Manchester paper recently, unless there are 2 of you.

This forum could have been but wasn't amended to include a new "super duper forum user" category, mainly to warn others that such users are frequent/habitual posters who perhaps spend too much time on this forum rather than in the real world! As for flysafe's comment at #10, yes, a letter of mine, though not really about OS&H, was published a few weeks ago in a South Manchester newspaper. Unfortunately, it had been mis-edited by the newspaper with the result that some facts were omitted and its concluding gist was impaired. Though I contacted the editor with a brief corrective letter, it wasn't published. It seems that neither letter was published on-line. Even so, I’m not disheartened about sending letters to magazines and newspapers for publication, just realistic that editors have the final say about what they publish and whether or not to edit letters. While on the subject of editing, surely all of us who post on this forum have edit facilities known as eyes, brains and fingers which can be used to read through and if necessary amend what we’ve typed before we hit the ‘post’ button. Okay, though we all make mistakes for various reasons including excess haste, fatigue or interruption, surely we should at least aspire to avoid typos and other mistakes in our postings.

To expect any other is a tad naive, IMHO. Quite a few years ago, someone wrote a really insightful article in SHP about an experience dealing with the press; the conclusion was to avoid them at all costs.

Has anyone noticed anything different with regards to the forums (apart from any logging in or crashing problems identified by Claire) because I have not?

A new Network forum has appeared. The main difference I have seen is in the role of Web Champion, where modifications to the Branch pages appear very quickly. This makes our lives a lot easier.

Graham, there is a disclaimer, although it is rather hidden. The link for the Terms of Use is at the bottom of the forum page http://www.iosh.co.uk/te...f_use.aspx#Liabilitydisc as follows 9. The contents of the IOSH Site and our microsites (including our forums) don’t constitute advice, and reliance upon such content is entirely at the user’s own risk. I am not sure what visible changes there are, I would have preferred to see the ability to format with bold to save HAVING TO USE CAPS FOR EMPHASIS! Oh, and an edit function, common on many forums would have been nice!! Sorry CAPS used for emphasis!!!!

I can see no real difference either. Saw the Network Forums link but I don't seem to have anything contained within it. What's that about? Still waiting for an edit facility but also a 'chat' forum so we can behave like normal people from time to time and be allowed a sense of humour. Never known a forum go down for a whole week. What nonsense...not that I missed it I'm afraid.

How dare you display a sense of humour on here young man. Humour is most definately not allowed. Go to the naughty corner.

canopener - mention has been made before of the fairly well-hidden disclaimer regarding this forum. My ongoing plea has been for a brief and readily visible disclaimer at or near the top of the page 1 of the thread listings page. p.s. On a total and frivolous digression, I'm intrigued as to why your chosen avatar shows two canopener devices rather than just one as might be expected from your pseudonym! p.p.s. Hope my display of humour just above reaps a suitable reprimand from Clairel. However, I'd better add that I took up metaphorical residence in the naughty corner some time ago and don't want it getting too crowded! :-)

Very true. I am just a kids toy after all. However, I've seen things,.. you people wouldn't believe.... Attacked fire risks with control measures...... I watched H&S at Work Act implementation, glitter for nearly 10 hours a day.... All those moments, will be lost in time,.... like tears in rain.
