Being a tad thick this morning due to watching the Ryder Cup live and then the highlights after so pleading tiredness...
One of our group companies supplies Fire Extinguishers as part of their day to day business (PPE supplier etc) but don't get involved with servicing or commisioning. Because of this we purchase all our requirements through them for extinguishers as and when required and get them serviced elsewhere. Now having major problems with our servicing agent due to them being rubbish and never turning up on time or not at all (major national company) and looking to go elsewhere either nationally or finding local companies for each of our depots.
Question is, is commisioning on site purely the same as an initial service or yearly service? (i.e. we have them delivered as required and then get someone in to service them prior to being put in the designated position)

When a new extinguisher arrives (i.e. in the box) depending on type it does have to be commissioned. This is not like a regular servicing. A CO2 may arrive without the discharge horn attached so this is done then the complete extinguisher is weighed - this is to allow for the annual servicing to weigh and find out any discrepancy. A water extinguisher will need filling and anti-freeze adding if needed out doors, same goes for foam. Dry powders normally come complete but again normally weighed to find any latter discrepancy.
So no not a normal service just setting it up and recording the details to carry out the service (also includes adding the information stickers for servicing)
Hope this helps.
