I have just been informed by a site that there are lots of issues about Pneumonia in Welders. Apparently this can be combated by the PPV23 vaccine.
I have had a look into it, and the Department of Health released a 'Green Book' that mention this in chapter 25. They say the following:
Individuals at occupational risk
There is a strong association between welding and the development of pneumococcal disease, particularly lobar pneumonia (Palmer et al., 2003; Industrial Injuries Advisory Council, 2010). Therefore, welders who have not received the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) previously, should be offered a single dose of 0.5ml of PPV23 vaccine. Employers should ensure that provision is in place for workers to receive PPV23.
I have never heard of this before but I would appreciate any other info from you all. Also I thought some others like me might want to know this is out there.

deja vu... ?
Had it as the Pneumovax 23 variant.
Didn't do much welding the next two days due to the total immobilisation of my left arm (there is a reason why they ask you if you are right or left handed) and the high temperature that I developed.
Both are COMMON side effects.

Since you will be charged upwards of 50 quid per dose I do not expect you will be told.....

Definately a bit of deja vu. The same topic was a few pages ago.
Odd that such an unusual topic appears twice in the course of a week or so. Is there someone going round selling vaccines??

Those selling should be FORCED to have it, in BOTH arms.
If they had told me my arm would be unusable for one day, and partially useable ,in degrees, for several other days they would have been told where they could stick the needle.
