I recently registered as a (volunteer) mentor with this programme.
I would be appreciative if any safety/health professional would let me know of any safety incidents he/she has observed associated with the Learn to Work programme

It all depends on the occupational area. I have worked for the Training and Enterprise Council and Learning and Skills Council covering the full range of training / work programmes / work experience for young people and adults. The accidents were too numerous to list and many related to fatals and serious injury. H&S has been found to be ignored and overlooked on many occasions on these type of programmes and as such was a contributing factor to people being put a risk because no account was taken to ensure the safety of the participants taking part in the learning programmes..

Thank you for this recollection.
It's so easy to allow rhetoric about valid needs of unemployed and demotivated young people to obscure their needs, and rights, for appropriate safeguards at work.
Self-evidently, to the extent that what you write is recorded in evidence, there are many issues to address to prevent possible repetition.
Would you be so kind as to provide relevant details of documents that record reliable evidence of your recollection, please?

Thank you
While the Learn to Work programme is a voluntary programme with the CIPD in the lead and is not funded by the state, it is nonetheless useful to know this source of information about risks of injuries and fatalities.

Just to add, a further issue was when work experience participants (learners / trainees) where placed with employers no assessment had been made of the employers health and safety arrangements. This included pupils from schools on work experience. I have had cause to remove young persons from placements that they should never have been placed in due to the poor health and safety arrangements. This in itself was a contributing factor as to the many accidents.

Thanks again, Irwin43241
I can well believe your account of your experience; having myself contributed to school-employer links during a much earlier phase of my career, in hindsight I can see that I was not well enough informed to assess risks until I was later employed by leading employers' organisations where very smart and alert safety professionals were consulted on all training developments and in negotiations with trades unions.
In the last 24 hours, I received an email from the CIPD outlining how they're unfolding their 'Learn to Work' programme regionally over the next 9 months; so I'll stay alert to intervene when appropriate about safety/health issues.
