Hello, Just being a bit lazy and wondered if anyone had some templates for doing an internal audit on a large warehouse that has various FLTs on site . I do internal audits for my company but have only ever done ones for office/small warehouse with no MHE and the risks/hazards are low and would like to make sure its thorough and covers all the bases. I would be very grateful :)

Lisa, I do these all the time, but I can't give you the form I use. The sections in the form, though, deal with hazard questions on: Traffic routes outside the warehouse Vehicles and drivers Fork lift trucks Traffic routes inside the warehouse, pedestrian routes Other lifting equipment, e.g. scissor lifts, personnel cages on FLTs etc used in picking or stocktakes etc Racking and storage systems, stability, damage inspections, pallets Working in the warehouse Portable equipment, wrappers, strappers, shutter doors etc Chemical and flammables storage Staff welfare facilities, first aid, lighting, ventilation Fire risk assessment Phew!

Audit or inspection? The list seems to be relating to hazard spotting (inspection). IMO these are management tasks - can support an inexperienced manager, give them a checklist. Audit - in-depth scrutiny of systems. Not the same.

sadlass, Yes you are quite right :o) it is an inspection checklist, but there are 'audit' questions in there too about training, medicals for FLT drivers, LOLER examinations, racking inspections, signage, fire drills etc., etc. Let's see if Lisa needs both.

Few other topic areas (again, an actual inspection form is commericialy sensative): Non lifting MHE Maintenance department (equipment and processes / tasks) Picker manual handling Management of contractors (visiting drivers etc.) Working in chilled environments To be fair the actual list of topics could go on and on, and it would be specific to your operation. If you are auditing not inspecting then these topics will need to drilled down into, as JohnW states. I could take more than a day just auditing anyone of these topics areas, you need to identify the time you have and the detail you require, then prioritise topic areas on a risk basis.
