Hi all - have a tricky one. A gentleman working for a company employed to do various things including driving. He is currently extremely overweight and as a result is unable to drive the car provided by the company comfortably. He has difficult when he arrives at his destinations and currently the company are ensuring he doesn't have to park to far away from his destinations as he has difficulty walking. But sometimes this isn't possible or practical. Would it be acceptable from an HR and safety for the member of staff move to a different and more suitable role? And as the next role down would be a lesser salary would it be an issue - ? He wasn't overweight when they employed him -

They could go down the capability route with HR however the weight could be due to a medical reason. Either way follow procedures, sit down with the person, give them a chance to lose weight, offer support. Offering an alternative role as you have mentioned would be the best way however (and check with their HR on this one) I am pretty sure it would have to be on the same salary.

thanks Mr Fibble - I knew it was overlapping with HR and it is a little bit tricky but support is key - they wanted to reduce his salary but said myself cannot do so thanks for varifying

There is no requirement to maintain salary, just as there is no absolute requirement to find alternative work. There is a test of reasonableness is there not?
