Good morning all
I am delivering a risk management workshop next Monday and the "graveyard session" (the one immediately after lunch) is on health & safety risks. To kick it off I am looking for some safety focussed thought provokers, exercises, simple quiz questions with humour etc .... something really to get minds working again following lunch.
Anyone have any examples they are willing to share please :o)

You could set something practical up outside or in a workshop - get their arms & legs moving and their brains working! Fresh air helps, even if it's laced with sweat & diesel.
Good luck

Cost of preventing injuries at home.
Ask the audience for examples of DIY where they have not follwed sensible risk reduction methods and cost out how much it would have cost to make the situation safer. Think of a personal example to get the ball rolling the dafter the better.
For example, cutting grass no RCD and in flip flops and shorts, Trimming hedge no eye protection, painting balanced on a chair.
Put a value on doing it safely e.g. purchase of safety product and time to go and buy or get from shed or time to get the step ladders out of garage. Base this on an average hourly rate and then work out how much they value there life, hands, eyesight etc in pound and pence.
Then think of a similar work situation and discuss.
I have always found it a great icebreaker especially if you write up all the calculation on flip chart, you can over dramatise have a bit of a laugh but get over an important message.
