A colleague was advised that in the event of using her own car to transport an ill colleague to hospital (they chose to do this rather than ring 999) , she was not covered by her car insurance policy. The car being used was neither a company car nor a car with business use specified on her insurance. Can anyone help?

I understand that to be correct. A journey undertaken to transport a colleague is business use just like any other work journey, not personal use (which covers commuting but not any other kind of work journey) and therefore anyone who might do this should arrange business insurance.

I can confirm that insurance covering work activity would be required for this. I have had te same problems in previous positions

using your own car/company car, whether for buisness or not, the practice of taking someone to hospital due to accident/injury at work, is frowned by many people in our profession, as what happens if their conditon gets worse, they have a panic attack etc etc.
A lot of the above also will depend on the seveirty etc etc
but from a moral point of view what would you do??

This type of question gets asked at least once a month and it often has different opinions. sadly there is only one place to get the answer.....your insurance company.
