Just looking for some help/confirmation with regards to working with lead. we currently have two contracts (not yet started) the first is where we have to rout out a groove around the sash to install a draught excluder strip, the sash will be removed by removing the bead an sash ropes and then taking this to working area where the works wills
Be undertaken and then the sash replaced. The second is typical surface preparation and repaint, with the occasional need to completely replace the window.
For the first contract we are looking at equipment with LEV connected heap filtered hoovers, RPE and disposable overalls.
The second we are looking at following the British Coating Federations guide which details rubbing down wet and only sufficient to gain a sufficient key for the new finishing products, RPE and disposal overalls and disposal drop sheets. Will also provide adequate welfare facilities along with training in lead awareness
Also do we need to provide health surveillance or would this work be classed as a low exposure operation and therefore not required, any help in this matter would be appreciated as lead survey has been carried out on behalf of the client and they appear to be running scared of the issue due to the report, it states things like a bead that has been removed and previously painted with lead containing paint may well pollute the drainage/ water system due to the Mount of lead that will be released in removing the bead
Many thanks in advance for your replies
Regards
PaulR
